The 1 Ingredient Treat You Can Make Your Dog,

 Sweet Tater Chews!

Sweet potatoes (or Sweet Taters as we like to call them here in the South)! These chewy treats are super easy, super delicious treats that your dog will love and you will love how easy they are to make.  And... how can you pass up the possibility of asking your dog in your best baby voice: "Does my sweet tater want a sweet tater?" ??!?  😄

So many of the treats you buy off the shelf are filled with terrible ingredients, made in China or smell terrible. These are super easy to make, you know exactly what it is made of and are also super low priced as well! Unless your dog has a very unusual sweet potato allergy (which we've never heard of!), any dog could eat these without any fear or reaction or upset tummy.

Here's what you need to do:

  • Buy as many sweet potatoes that you want to slice up, 2 or 3 will give you plenty for most dogs.

  • Wash, dry and slice into pieces about 1/3 inch thick (pro tip: slice a small section off what will be the bottom of your sweet potato and it will be more stable as you slice it)

  • Lay out your slices on a cookie sheet(s), not over lapping,  lined with parchment paper

  • Place in oven at lowest temperature, which is 175 degrees on most US ovens, for around 8 hours or overnight. After 8 hours, pull the sweet taters out and examine them. If they are completely dry, then they are done! Any that are still a bit moist looking or feeling should go back in the oven until they are sort of crispy or have a dried jerky like feel and look to them. The thicker they are sliced, the longer they will have to be dried in the oven. Completely dried taters will last on the counter for several days or can be stored in a zip top bag for a few weeks in the fridge, if they last that long!
